THE MANN MUSIC CENTER PARTNERS WITH THE PHILM FACTORY
Over the summer The Mann Music Center started its Music Apprenticeship Program with various partnerships with elite music and entertainment production companies from around the city which included a new partnership with the Philm Factory. The Mann has scheduled paid training and learning for 4 apprentices Danial, Attiek, Shelston, and Jermain, recent graduates from Overbook High School. Throughout the year, they will travel and switch to various companies and sites. The apprenticeship program was designed to help apprentices with hands on experience, technical advancements of the music industry as well as the film industry by introducing young people to new fields.
During their two weeks at Philm Factory’s “Take One” youth film mentorship program, the training consisted of learning the basics of filmmaking and the 5 phases: Development, Pre-Production, Production, Post-Production, Distribution. The apprentices were able to learn the side of filmmaking that many people don’t often get to see , which is the behind the scenes. The apprentices worked on budgeting, scheduling, logging items to keeping up with equipment, as well as the creation of props and art book decks for the short film “Galaxy”. The apprentices also learned a lot about camera equipment and dabbled in learning the ends and outs of production through a Director of Photography lens.
The students have since transitioned to their next location and company on their schedule but will return to the Philm Factory in November.
