Intro to Screenwriting – Course Description

This six-week course is designed for aspiring writers who want to learn the fundamentals of writing for film and television. Whether you are completely new to screenwriting or have some storytelling experience, this class introduces the essential tools needed to develop compelling cinematic stories.

Participants will learn the core principles of screenplay structure, character development, dialogue, and visual storytelling. Through guided exercises and writing assignments, students will develop their own short screenplay while gaining a clear understanding of industry-standard formatting and storytelling techniques.

The course emphasizes practical learning and creative exploration. Students will generate story ideas, outline their narratives, and write key scenes while receiving feedback from instructors and peers. By the end of the program, participants will have a completed short screenplay and a strong foundation for continuing their screenwriting journey.

Students must be 18 or older.

CLASS SCHEDULE 

Course Schedule

Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM over the course of seven sessions. Each class will focus on developing the core principles of screenwriting while guiding students through the process of creating their own short screenplay.

Throughout the course, students will participate in writing exercises, story development workshops, and script feedback sessions designed to help them complete a polished short screenplay by the end of the program.

TUITION

Tuition, Payment, and Cancellation Policy

Student Tuition: $500

Payment Options:

Option 1: Installment Plan (Automatic Payments)

  • Down Payment: $200 due upon acceptance to reserve your spot in the course.
  • Remaining Balance: Two additional automatic bi-weekly payments of $150 each.
  • Downpayment Must Be Completed By: March 27, 2026

Payments are processed automatically through our secure online system.

Option 2: Pay in Full (Early Discount)

Full Payment: $450 if paid in full by March 20, 2026.
Students receive a $50 early payment discount when paying the full tuition by this date.

Payment Requirements

Full tuition must be paid in order to participate in all course activities and receive class-related materials, instructor feedback, and the final script deliverables.

Cancellation Policy

No Refunds: All payments are non-refundable once made.

Spot Transfers: If a student cannot attend, the only way to recover tuition is by transferring their reserved spot to another eligible student. The new student must pay full tuition, and once the school confirms their payment, the original student may be reimbursed from those funds.

After the Class Begins: Once the course has started, cancellations may not be possible. Removing a student at this stage can disrupt workshops, peer feedback sessions, and the script development process. Students cancelling after the course begins may forfeit their tuition and may not be allowed to complete the program.

Administrative Approval: Any exceptions to this policy, including spot transfers after the start of class, are at the sole discretion of the administration.

Purpose of This Policy: This policy ensures that all students can fully participate, protects the integrity of the course structure, and allows the program to cover costs for instructors, guest speakers, and course resources.

Attendance Policy

Consistent attendance is essential for writing exercises, workshops, and peer feedback sessions.

  • 1 unexcused absence: Participation may be reviewed.

  • 2 unexcused absences: Participation in the course may be removed.

If a student knows in advance that they will miss a class, they must notify instructors. Advance notice allows instructors to adjust workshop participation and will not count as an unexcused absence.
